With the final two chapters now online, “A Disappointing Life” is complete. It begins in western Pennsylvania in the 1830s, takes in the Mexican War, the California Gold Rush, and the early movement along the Oregon Trail, before ending up back in Pennsylvania, in time for the Civil War. That’s a lot of ground to cover, but I think I have kept it interesting.
